About Chance To Dance

Chance to Dance is a one day city centre dance festival that was established in 2000. The festival is very popular involving approximately 30 different dance groups on open ‘stages’ across the city centre. Dance groups reflect the wide diversity of cultures and types of dance available in the city. Part of the ethos of the festival is to encourage people to join in and have a go. This means that, since the start of Chance to Dance, up to 200,000 people have taken part in trying out different forms of dance – from Salsa to Bhangra from Ballroom to Modern Jive.

FUNDRAISING THANKS

Huge THANK YOU to Nisha Lall, of Aim to Dance, for a generous contribution of £300 to CHANCE TO DANCE. Nisha produced ‘THE BEAT 2012’ , a fantastic celebration of dance , performed last month at the Library Theatre – and all profits have been donated to help towards getting Chance to Dance 2013 off the ground. Maybe food for thought for how other groups could support us?. Thanks again Nisha.

30th June 2012  –  and, once more, people were dancing in the streets, all over Sheffield City Centre.   A great turn out, people smiling in the sun, and through the rain.

Mass Salsa

“A few of us from sheffieldslings came along and danced with our babies on our backs – we all loved it, thank you!!”

“Wasn’t it wonderful when folk applauded and came up to us and thanked us for keeping going (editors note: through the rain!!) ? It made it all worth while! We’ll never forget the event!”

“Fab dancing, fab audiences, fab organisers, fab day “
